Then came the meals we did order, first was the Reuben which had absolutely no corned beef on one side, none, nothing how is that even remotely acceptable? Another thing the kitchen staff should have noticed when you cut it to plate it. Noontime on Thursday, you think they would have figured out before opening that they were low on a "slow roasted" dish and inform the wait staff ahead of time. After ordering I was informed that they were out of lamb. Stopped for lunch, ordered the small bowl lamb dish. Oh also, their rewards program is worth signing up for if you frequent this place. If you're looking for a more casual setting than the winery down the road, this is definitely the place to go. Despite the menu covering all of the basics, I feel it could be a bit more diverse, but what they do have is very satisfying. Their pricing is a tiny bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for here, and you'll be happy you came here instead of the Olive Garden. Super rich and will definitely feed two people twice over. Their real bread and butter oddly enough isn't the actual homemade bread and butter they bring it to you when you sit down (which is very good by the way), but their desserts. They have burgers and sandwiches as well, and a few signature cocktails. Their menu has something for everyone, including vegan and gluten free options. BFC is not your average hipster run restaurant. Don't let this turn you off if you're not the hipster type. Overall disappointing experience - I would not recommend and would not return.Black Forest Cafe seems like one of those hipster type places at first, with a small menu on a clipboard and weird water jugs that look like fish and make a funny gurgling sound after they're done putting your water. Additionally, someone wanted just a breakfast sandwich and they were told "no, but the closest thing on the menu is the burrito." With all the bread options, along with eggs and meat, it is a bit surprising that they cant assemble a breakfast sandwich. They were also not very willing to customize items - for example someone in our party wanted the biscuits dish without mushrooms but the sauce is pre-made so they were unable to accommodate. The service was very slow for the restaurant being less than half full. The best meal of the table would be the burritos, but even on this dish the guacamole was bland. The home fries that came with the meals were served barely warm and tasted like what you would get at a hotel breakfast in the serving trays. The gravy with the biscuits was lacking in flavor, only one order of eggs benedict had the eggs cooked properly. they provide prior to the meal had a nice variety with decent flavors which is the only reason for 2 stars.Īt the table we ordered a variety of items including the biscuits and gravy, burritos, and eggs benedict. The cappuccino was mostly milk, with little a small amount of froth, and it was difficult to even taste the espresso through the milk. Started with cappuccinos which were far from a real cappuccino. Very disappointing quality and flavor of breakfast. One server efficiently handles 20 or more patrons without these types of slip ups. Server made two rounds to the kitchen and took orders from other tables while companion's food cooled off before bringing the pepper.Ĭompanion is a member of a local group that meets upstairs every month or so, and she reports that the service is much better on those occasions. Companion wanted pepper for her dish, and requested it from our server. There are no salt and pepper shakers on the tables. In one case, her hand brushed my companion's water glass. Our server would set down plates of food by reaching over people and setting them down in a haphazard manner, which required us to push the dishes to the proper recipients. Companion pronounced her chicken and pasta dish mediocre. The shrimp on my Buddha bowl were overdone it was quite a chore to remove the tail shells that were stuck on. The food is nothing to write home about anymore. This place is a shadow of what it used to be 15-20 years ago.
